KARACHI: Geo’s Ramazan transmission programme ‘Amaan Ramazan’ and its presenter Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain have become known to the whole world, including America, after the most popular news channel, CNN, mentioned the programme and the presenter, and now media persons from across the world are going to come to attend Shehr-e-Amaan.
The CNN in its special report issued on July 29 praised the role of Dr Aamir Liaquat in the popularity of Geo’s Aman Ramazan transmission, saying that Aamir Liaquat had left different TV channels of Pakistan in the race for popularity of Ramazan programmes.
The CNN, after special coverage of the Geo’s programme, termed Aman Rmazan a symbol of love and peace and gave the credit for it to Aamir Liaquat.
The CNN commentator said that, during the seven-hour long Aman Ramazan, Aamir Liaquat not only gave away beautiful clothes, motorcycles and other electronic appliances to the audience in reward for answering different easy questions but also cooked food and recited Naats. Besides, the commentator added, Aamir also told children different stories about different animals, like lion, goat, snake, etc, to teach them Islamic lessons through them.
Giving away babies to childless parents was termed as the most important feature of Aman Ramazan. The CNN commentator quoted Aamir Liaquat as having said that the two babies found from a heap of garbage were given to the parents for the welfare of the infants, not for increasing the viewership of the program. He quoted Aamir Liquat saying that he gave away the children so that they did not fall in wrong hands and thus he helped them not become potential suicide bombers.
Amir Liaqat appealed to the public not to throw children in garbage rather they should hand the children over to welfare organizations to make them useful citizens and save them from becoming a source of spread of terrorism. He said the programme had nothing to do with the rating but it was a public service.
Ramzan Chhipa of a welfare organization said that they had a proper mechanism to hand over children to childless couples and four to five meetings were held with couples being they were given children after registration.
The CNN correspondent also described the joy of the woman who got the girl child in the programme. Amir Liaqat told the CNN correspondent that the objective of the Aman Ramazan programme was to spread the message of love and peace. He said that it was a kind of worship to make those people happy who are facing sectarianism and intolerance and giving childless couples kids was a part of it. The CNN, in its report, referred to the popularity of the programme and that it had broken all records of popularity. The report also said that followers of other religions besides Islam were also being invited to the programme to increase interfaith harmony.
