KARACHI: Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, world renowned broadcaster, prominent research scholar and a popular TV personality, has once again joined the Jang Group and Geo Television Network and is formally assuming his responsibilities as vice president of Geo Television Network and head of ‘Geotainment’ today.
He will also discharge responsibilities as editor of all Islamic pages of Daily Jang, as the group executive director and group editor religious affairs of Jang Group and will give useful advice to the organisation on all religious affairs.
It may be mentioned that Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain is considered among the founding members of Geo who appeared as a prominent reference of Geo’s identity across the world about 11 years ago and played a key role in strengthening the foundations of the organisation. He had left the organisation about two years ago expressing some reservations. Not only did the Pakistani people seriously feel his absence but viewers from across the world also insisted through innumerable telephone calls and hundreds of thousand emails that he return to the Geo screen. His absence was particularly felt during last Ramazan as Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain had set the tradition in Pakistan of celebrating the holy month in a befitting manner. After this, Geo formally launched an effective campaign for his comeback and finally he has offered his services to Geo and Jang on the immense insistence of the public.
Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain, who won the honour of the best orator of Asia for Pakistan for the first time in his youth, is grandson of late Sardar Ali Sabri, who was a veteran journalist of the Subcontinent and had given the title of Quaid-i-Azam to Muhammad Ali Jinnah. His mother, late Mahmooda Sultana (Ghosia Begum), was the first woman columnist of Pakistan and close associate of Madar-i-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah, while his father late Sheikh Liaquat Hussain was a worker of the Pakistan Movement.
While studying at Liaquat Medical
College, Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain did his graduation in Islamic Studies from the University of Karachi while he is doing his master’s in Islamic history from the Federal Government Urdu University. He has also served as editor and editor-in-chief of different newspapers and journals and his columns in Daily Jang with the title ‘Loudspeaker’ won much praise from the public.
In 2002, he was elected to the National Assembly on the ticket of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and later befittingly did his job as the minister of state for religious affairs. However, he quit the ministry as well as the National Assembly after parting ways with his party and the government because of differences over a religious issue in 2007, one-and-a-half years before the completion of his tenure.
Three books of Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain have already been published. He has won gold medal nine times as the best orator of Pakistan while he has also been awarded as the best Naat Khawan of Pakistan and several CDs of Naats recited by him are available in the market.
His beautiful songs are broadcast not only in Pakistan but also in Egypt, Turkey, Algiers and the United Arab Emirates with subtitles.
He presented many record-making programmes of religious and literary nature, with the world popular ‘Aalim on Line’ and Ramazan transmission as well as special programmes on Christmas, Holi, Dewali and religious festivals of other faiths.
