Business Recorder founder-editor dies

KARACHI: The Editor-in-Chief and founder-editor of Daily Business Recorder and former senior assistant editor Dawn M A Zuberi passed away here on Sunday. He was also the Patron-in-Chief of Aaj TV channel.
Born in Merehra, UP, India, on July 2, 1920, he leaves behind three sons, Wamiq, Arshad and Asif and two daughters Afshan and Dr Darakshhan, many grand - and great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest in the compound of Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s Mazar.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be offered at Masjid Noor-ul-Islam, Zamzama Park, Clifton, after Zohr prayers today (Monday). Considered as the pioneer of economic and financial journalism in the country, Zuberi was a former president and one of the founding members of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE).
A widely traveled Zuberi represented Pakistan in various international forums, including the Commonwealth Press Union, United Nations and World Bank/IMF Annual meetings. He was a recipient of ‘Sitara-i-Imtiaz’ and many other awards.
Zuberi had joined journalism under the command of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in December 1945 with induction into daily Dawn, Delhi. As senior assistant editor Dawn, Karachi, he also launched the Evening Star.
He took retirement from Dawn Karachi after completing nearly 20 years. A year later, he launched the Business Recorder, the first business daily of the Muslim world. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani have condoled the demise of M A Zuberi.
They have expressed deep grief and sorrow over his death and paid tributes to the services of late Zuberi for the promotion of media in the country. The president and the prime minister have prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with patience and courage.
Gilani telephoned Wamiq Zuberi, Editor Business Recorder, and condoled over the death of his father. He lauded the invaluable

contribution of late Zuberi for the promotion of healthy journalism as well as social services for the people that would be long remembered.
The Federal Minister and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Samsam Ali Shah Bokhari, have also expressed grief and sorrow on the death of M A Zubairi.
The founder and leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, has offered condolences on the sad demise of M A Zuberi. Expressing sorrow and grief, Altaf prayed for the departed soul and for patience and fortitude for the bereaved family.
