Professor Laiq Ahmed laid to rest

Islamabad: Renowned TV compere Professor Laiq Ahmed, who breathed his last on Monday, was buried at the Sector H-11 graveyard here on Tuesday.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Dr. Nazir Saeed, PML-N Information Secretary Senator Mushahidullah Khan and a large number of people from different walks of life attended his funeral.
Born in 1933 in Lahore, he started his career from PTV Lahore in 1964 with the hosting of a science magazine programme which brought him to the heights of fame. Later, the programme had also been aired from Karachi and Islamabad for several years.
His career rose to further glory when he conducted the live coverage of first satellite of United States of America from the region of sub-continent.
He also conducted live coverage of 1970 general elections, including the daylong incidents, results and discussions on the trends of election results, political parties situation and turnout ratio.
He also took the responsibility of hosting discussion forums on PTV during Islamic Summit Conference in 1974. He was also assigned to hold the live coverage of Islamic World heads during their visits to Pakistan and the responsibility of conducting live coverage of special national events held every year on March 23 and August 14.
He was specially invited to attend the 49th anniversary of PTV held on November 22, 2013.
In recognition to his meritorious services, the Government of Pakistan awarded him with Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Lifetime Achievement Award.
An educationist by profession, Professor Laiq had seven daughters and two sons. He was a generous and helping man by nature, who infused new and thought-provoking ideas among younger generation.
