KARACHI: At least twenty-six persons were awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz, President’s Award for Pride of Performance and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for their services and achievements in their respective fields at a ceremony held at the Governor’s House on Saturday.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad conferred the awards on behalf of the President of Pakistan.
Chief Minister, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, provincial ministers, advisors, senior military and civil officials and relatives of awards recipients also attended the ceremony. During the ceremony, Sindh Chief Secretary, Shakeel Durrani, read out the citations.
Of the 26 awards, 14 personalities were conferred Sitara-e-Imtiaz, eight were awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and four received the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.
The recipients of the Sitara-e-Imtiaz were: Yasmin Lari (Architecture), Dr Manzoor Hussain (Medicine), Tanveer Jamshed (Art, Designing), Prof Dr Riaz-ul-Islam (Literature, History), Prof Shariful Mujahid (Literature, History and Research), Qazi Asad Abid (Literature, Journalism), Syed Shamsul Hasan (posthumous, Public Service), Sohail Wajahat Siddiqui (Public Service), Prof Abdul Ghafar Billo (Public Service), Shaukat Ali Suleman (Public Service), Ahmed Chennai (Public Service), Badar Kazmi (Public Service, Banking), Humayun Murad (Public Service) and Tariq Rafi (Public Service).
The recipients of the President’s Award for Pride of Performance were Mohsin Sherazi (Art, Acting), Ustad Bashir Khan (Art, Music), Dr Fehmida Firdous (Public Service) and Mehwish Nadir Khan (Nursing).
Those who were conferred Tamgha-e-Imtiaz included Mai Allah Wasai (Folk Music), Junaid Jamshed (Music), Col (rtd) Khan Muhammad Umer (Photography), Naseeruddin Sami (Music), Asghar Ali Shah (Boxing), Dr Muhammad Anwar Khawaja (Social Worker/Public Service), Dr Harchand Roy Lakhani (Public Service) and Abdus Salam (Public Service).
Earlier in the day, the Sindh Governor along with Sindh CM, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, and provincial ministers visited the mausoleum of founder of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The governor and CM laid floral wreath and offered Fateha.
Sindh Chief Secretary, Shakeel Durrani, IGP Sindh, Jahangir Mirza, Principal Secretary to Governor, Muhammad Saleem Khan, DCO Karachi, Fazlur Rahman and other officials also accompanied the governor and the CM during the visit.
