Junior army officer found hanging with fan hook in Islamabad

Islamabad: A serving army officer was found hanging with a ceiling fan hook in his house in Sector I-8/1 here on Tuesday morning, police said. Apparently, the officer had committed suicide, however, every aspect of the case would be investigated, said an officer engaged in the investigation.The father of the deceased is the controller of accounts in Grade-21, belonging to the Accounts Service and attached with the General Accounts, police sources said. Lieutenant Haris Usman, 22, son of Usman Hayat Khan, belonging to the Corps of Signals, was based in Quetta and came to his home (House no. 7, Street 15, Sector I-8/1, Islamabad) on leave a few days back, sources said. Lieutenant Haris Usman came on leave with the motive of committing suicide. He was on leave till January 10, 2014, sources said. “He was found strangulated in his room at 7 am on Tuesday when his family members went to awaken him. Police and military officials reached there soon after getting information and speculated that it was a suicide.” Police disclosed that Lieutenant Haris left a four-page letter for his parents and elaborated the reasons behind committing suicide. “I am fed up with such kind of life and cannot bear pressure (not defined) now,” he wrote in the letter, adding, “I have cleared my all debts and loans in Quetta and Islamabad,” he wrote in his letter. Police officials investigating the case said that Haris used a ladder stand to climb to the ceiling fan hook, adding that he attached rope with the ladder and pulled it down after strangleholding his neck with the noose and hanged himself to death. At about 7 am, his sister came to wake him up but the door was locked from inside, police said. According to police, she knocked at the door repeatedly but got no response. She found him hanging with the ceiling fan hook when she peeped into the room from the rear window. Police, as well as intelligence agencies of the army, reached the spot and gathered information and evidence to investigate the cause of suicide. Police have taken up the case and started an investigation.
