Karachi Famous TV host and Urdu writer, novelist and columnist Quraishpur passed away on Monday.He had joined the Pakistan Television in 1973 as the presentation controller and retired in 1992 as the head of the department. He was the host of popular TV programmes Kasauti, Sheeshay Ka Ghar and Zauq-e-Agahi.Expressing profound grief over the demise of Quraishpur, noted Urdu scholar Saher Ansari, who had a long association and working relationship with the deceased, said Quraishpur was a highly genteel and articulate person. He spoke especially of the departed’s very polite and affable manner of dealing with others. He said even when he was very angry, he never resorted to harsh language or temper tantrums but would defuse the matter through very polite and courteous ways, expressing, at the same time his disagreement. “Quraishpur was a beautiful human being with the most sublime of qualities of head and heart. He was so humble. Lauding his strict adherence to morality and principles, he narrated an instance where Quraishpur had a really brief break in his career. He got a really lucrative salary package and a brand new car in an organisation owned by a capitalist but just a day or two after that. When he found out the real shady nature of the job, he quit right away. Ansari spoke real highly of Quraishpur’s proficiency in Urdu, English and in particular, Persian.Terming his death as a real shock, nationally acclaimed poetess and noted media personality, Nasira Zuberi, spoke of Quraishpur as an intellectual giant, a great personality and one of the breed of intellectuals who were easing out of this world one after the other. She said the dilemma was that they were not being replaced as the values of the modern generation and their mores were focused in a corporate manner where intellect was a vestigial commodity. She said Quraishpur was one of the very few surviving members of the generation of intellectuals of the post-Independence
era.“Today, people are promoting people who are not very genuine”, Zuberi lamented. She spoke very highly of the programmes launched and conducted by the deceased and said that these were very educative and informative, something that is rapidly disappearing from the electronic media now. Today’s TV programmes had nothing constructive to offer young people accept for indoctrination, she said. The general manager of the PTV Karachi centre, Qaiser Naqi Imam, also expressed deep sorrow and grief on the passing away of Quraishpur, APP adds. He said the deceased was a very learned and fine human being.Qaiser added that Quraishpur’s services would never be forgotten. In a condolence message, he extended sympathy to the bereaved family and said that the whole nation was with them in their time of grief and sorrow.
