LAHORE: Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jahangir Khan Tareen has urged the National Fertiliser Corporation’s management to make adequate quantity of fertiliser available in the country through an improved import and distribution system.
He was reviewing the performance of National Fertiliser Corporation (NFC) and National Fertiliser Marketing Limited (NFML) in a meeting held at the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) head office on Thursday. Shahab Khwaja, Federal Secretary Ministry of Industries also attended the meeting.
The NFC management team, led by its Chairman Major General (Retd) Zafar Abbas, gave a presentation to highlight the progress and constraints faced by the organisation under the prevailing fertiliser situation in the country. The NFC team included Brig Anees, Managing Director NFML, Naseer Khan, GM and Syeda Zahida Alvi, GM (Finance).
Referring to the distribution and marketing strategy of NFML, the minister agreed that the existing dealers’ network should be activated followed by maximum efforts to enhance sales on cash through direct dispatches from the port.
Earlier, the NFC management, in a presentation, projected the overall performance of the company. Chairman NFC Zafar Abbas said that the NFML intended to play the role of an interventionist in order to hire stores on requirement basis. Initially, the company planned to hire a capacity of 15,000 tons by having 10 stores of 11,000 tons in Punjab and three stores of 4,000 tons in Sindh, he added.
