Islamabad After a very successful first Food Festival a few months ago, the Islamabad Foreign Women’s Association (IFWA) organised a second one, which was as successful although it began a little on the slow side it being a day when most people like to sleep late! The event was held at the IFWA Community Centre for a two-hour period, but eager visitors who wished to try the cuisine of the different participating countries arrived at the last minute, so the end time was extended for a while. It made for a good ‘family outing’ day! All the ladies on the IFWA committee participated with enthusiasm so there was a variety of taste and flavour to choose from at each stall with some delicious sweets to have as dessert or to take home. Patron, High Commissioner Dr. Aishath Shehenaz Adam (Maldives); President Rawsan Ara Hossain (Bangladesh) EminaLimo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Dulce Maria Rodriguez Peral (Cuba) Alena Krenek (Czech Republic) Basema Al-Ani (Iraq) Zubyda Al-Ani (Iraq) Habibah Binti Mahmud (Malaysia) Totra Acharya (Nepal) Midori Oe (Japan) and Kumari Weerakkody (Sri Lanka) along with their mission members/staff had worked hard to prepare goodies from their respective countries, while a stall serving food from Saudi Arabia was also set-up to help in this fund raising effort. Hot and spicy or mild and mellow, there was something for all tastes and those who came to check out the event either sat and ate there — tables and chairs had been put out in the lawn as well as set up inside - or had the food packed up to take home. There was a hustle and bustle at the venue as whole families came to spend a time in this international atmosphere s well as meet the ladies behind this effort. Apart from the cuisine there were home made jams and chutneys and a sale of raffle tickets with very good prizes for the lucky holders. The draw took place just before the ladies wrapped up for the day and those who were not present to collect their prizes were to be informed by phone.
