PM rejects extension to MD of security printing press

April 09, 2013
ISLAMABAD: In a bid to move towards holding free and fair elections in the country, the caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has rejected a summary for seeking extension in the tenure of Ghulam Nabi Mangrio as Managing Director of Pakistan Security Printing Press, Karachi, The News has learnt.
This is a department which will basically be responsible for publishing ballot papers for the upcoming May 11 elections in the country. Now, the Establishment Division has moved another summary for appointing another DMG, BS 21 officer Rizwan Ahmed, for the slot of MD, Pakistan Security Printing Press, Karachi. Another bureaucrat said that Rizwan Ahmed, a DMG officer, has been currently serving in Sindh and considered quite close to some political forces of the ruling class of the province.
It was the appointment of Mr Mangrio which had created ripples during the last few weeks of tenure of former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as despite stiff resistance extended by bureaucracy the former premier preferred to make this controversial appointment.
The appointment of Deputy Governor SBP is still a lingering issue despite clear cut instruction issued by the ECP to remove him, but the caretaker had not so far moved towards the desired objective.
There are many other controversial appointments made by the former premier in his last few days in office by appointing Board of Directors into SBP, commercial banks and joint investment companies.
In such controversial appointments, the Islamabad High Court had already declared appointment of PM’s son-in-law as deputy MD in Pak-China Investment Company as illegal, and Javed Mehmood has already assumed his charge in the investment company.
When contacted, the Secretary Establishment said, “We moved a summary about three weeks ago, but now another summary was moved for serving DMG officer of BS-21 for this slot few days ago. His appointment has been under consideration by the PM.”
