Asaf Humayun made vice admiral

ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday notified the promotion of Rear Admiral Asaf Humayun to the rank of vice admiral with immediate effect. Vice Admiral Asaf Humayun joined the Pakistan Navy in Dec 1970. After initial training at the Pakistan Naval Academy, and the British Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK, he was commissioned in June 1973.

Admiral is a submariner by specialisation. He has held various operational appointments, including commander of PN submarines Hangor and Shushuk and commander of PN ships Tippu Sultan and Shahjahan. Besides, he has also served as commander of the Submarine Squadron.

On staff appointments, he served as director of the Submarines Operations and naval secretary at the Naval Headquarters. He is a graduate of the National Defence College, Islamabad, and has done Naval Staff Course from the US. He has also served as Naval Attaché in New Delhi.

As DG Maritime Technologies Complex, he employed his operational knowledge for the technology development. He was made commander of the PN Fleet in Jan 2006. He is currently serving as commander of the Pakistan Fleet. During his career, Asaf has been awarded Hilal-e-lmtiaz (Military), Sitara-e-lmtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-lmtiaz (Military).
