Asma Jahangir’s mother dies

LAHORE: Ms Sabiha Jilani, mother of renowned human rights activist and former President SCBA Asma Jahangir, passed away on Sunday. She was 85. She has left behind four children including Samina Tahir, Asma Jahangir, Hina Jilani and Usman Jilani Malik.
She was the widow of known politician the Malik Ghulam Jilani and daughter of Maulana Salah ud Din Ahmed. Her funeral will be held at 4pm, Tuesday at her residence in E-1, Gulberg 3.
The late Ms Jilani studied in F.C. College Lahore and was the first female Muslim student of that college where she was one of the leading tennis players and swimmers. In her lifetime she closely witnessed several political events and was a support to political prisoners during the 1960s and 70s. She endured hardships while her husband was incarcerated and lost his property due to his political beliefs.
APP adds: President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif have expressed his grief and sorrow on the demise. They prayed to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul.
