JI leaders accuse ANP govt of record corruption

July 02, 2012
MARDAN: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leaders on Sunday alleged that the Awami National Party-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government during its four-year rule had broken corruption records of all the previous governments.
Speaking at a gathering, the JI leaders including Haji Sultan Mohammad, Gul Nawaz Khan, Haji Azeemuddin, Taj Malook and Ghausul Azam said the ANP leaders had done nothing for the people.
Sultan Mohammad said the ANP and PPP leaders and elected representatives were involved in corrupt practices. He said the ANP had promised to provide free electricity to the people if voted to power, but instead the ANP-PPP government made life miserable for the people by resorting to 18-hour long loadshedding in summer.
He also criticised Maulana Fazlur Rahman indirectly and his Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam for allegedly deceiving the masses in the name of Islam and Sharia. “The leader of a religious party got votes in the name of Islam but later became part of the corrupt Zardari-led government. Supporting corrupt people means the person himself is involved in corruption,” Sultan Mohammad said.
Gul Nawaz Khan, who had been affiliated with the ANP and other political parties in the past, said the ANP leadership was involved in corruption. “There is no merit anywhere in the province and every post has a price in the ANP government,” he told the gathering.
