KARACHI: Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has prepared the list of the persons who are eligible to attend its electoral meeting to be held on February 4 at a hotel in Lahore. As per the list, 102 voters will cast their votes to elect the office-bearers of the Pakistan’s top sports body, the POA, for a four-year term. Lt General (retd) Syed Arif Hassan, hockey Olympian Qasim Zia and former international athlete and the president of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) Major General (retd) Mohammad Akram Sahi are contesting the elections for the presidential slot. Interestingly, the AFP secretary Khalid Mehmood, who had decided to contest the election for the post of secretary from the panel of Arif Hassan, will represent Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) as voter because both his department WAPDA and his federation AFP had not sent his nomination. Sindh Sports Minister Mohammad Ali Shah will cast his vote from Sindh. Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) and Pakistan Basketball Federation are ineligible to cast votes because their cases are pending in the courts. Pakistan Equestrian Federation, being suspended, is also ineligible to vote. Olympic sports disciplines have three votes each, while non-Olympic sports disciplines have two votes each. The provincial Olympic associations, affiliated departments Army, PAF, Navy, Railways, WAPDA, HEC and Police have one vote each while Islamabad Olympic Association and FATA Olympic Association have a half vote each. Athletes Commission of Pakistan has two votes while four votes are for the female members.
