LANDIKOTAL: Unidentified armed persons Thursday killed the Khyber Agency coordinator of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) Zarteef Khan Afridi in Jamrud subdivision, locals and officials said. Political Tehsildar Shakeel Umarzai said the unknown gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on Zarteef Afridi, 52, and killed him on the spot. ìZarteef Afridi was on his way to school, where he was serving as its headmaster, on a motorcycle when intercepted near Shangar area of Jamrud,î Shakeel Umarzai said, adding that the assailants fled the scene after committing the crime. Local people and Khassadar personnel reached the site and shifted the body to Jamrud tehsil, wherefrom it was handed over to his family. Zarteef Afridiís colleagues said the deceased was a peace-loving and democratic-minded person, adding that he didnít have enmity with anyone. Khan Habib, a close friend of the late Zarteef Afridi, said the deceased was a dutiful and committed teacher and a good calligrapher. He paid homage to Zarteef Afridi for his services and said he would be remembered for long.
