Rallies welcome restoration of commissionerate system
SHIKARPUR: Activists of Pakistan People’s Party, Jeay Sindh Mahaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional group and other social and city organisations took out welcome rallies at Shikarpur, Garhiyasin and other towns on Sunday to express their happiness on the restoration of Commissionerate System and discontinuation of the 2002 Police Order by the Sindh government. The rallies were led by PPP District President Mir Babal Khan Bhayo, JSM District President Asadullah Soomro and other local leaders. The participants expressed their happiness over the restoration of commissionarate system and cancellation of police order and hoped for resolution of people’s problems as well as restoration of peace and tranquility in Sindh.

One killed in Bara hand grenade blast

BARA: One person was killed while two others were injured when a hand grenade went off in Speen Dand area of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency on Sunday, tribal sources said. The sources said that one Umar was clearing dust from a hand grenade while sitting in his shop in Speen Dand when it blew up suddenly. Umar died on the spot while two visitors sitting nearby were injured. Meanwhile, a local identified as Shaukat was injured when militants opened fire on him while he was travelling his car in Ghareza area of Bara Tehsil on Sunday.

Former commander of Hur force killed in firing

LARKANA: A dispute over ownership of agriculture land left a man dead here on Sunday. The incident occurred in the limit of Phulo police station of Khairpur Katcha Kiti, where a dispute for land ownership existed between Khuhra (Asad Khuhro) and Pir (Raja Sain). The tension increased late on Friday night and the sides resorted to firing in which former commander Hur force Faqeer Arbelo Katpar was killed.

Suspect held with 21kg of explosives

NOWSHERA: The police claimed to have

arrested a suspected person and seized 21 kilograms of explosives from him in Jaroba area in Pabbi tehsil on Sunday. Talking to reporters, Assistant Sub-Inspector Naheed Khan said that acting on a tip-off, the party of Jaroba police post barricaded the road at Speen Khak Jaroba near Frontier Region Peshawar. He said a motorcyclist Saeedullah, son of Aslam Khan and resident of Darra Adamkhel, was arrested after seizure of 21 kilograms of explosives contained in a bag from him. The official said during initial interrogation the suspect said he was carrying the explosives for use in blasting in mines in the mountains and that he had been paid Rs5,000 per kilogram as his wages. The police, however, suspected that the explosives were for use in terrorist activities.

Woman drug pusher, eight outlaws held in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police have arrested nine accused, including a woman, and recovered a total of seven kilograms opium, one wine bottle, four 30 bore pistols from their possession. Meanwhile, Bhara Kau and Shalimar police arrested four suspects during search operation.

Mother, daughter drown in Loralai stream
LORALAI: A woman and her 14-year-old daughter drowned in a stream on Saturday near Rakhani area of Loralai district. According to the Levies Force, a family was on its way home in a vehicle and was crossing water of torrential rain when they were swept away by it. Some people saved an injured man while woman and her daughter’s bodies could not be found.

Huge quantity of narcotics recovered
FAISALABAD: The police have recovered quantity of narcotics from different drug traffickers here on Sunday. Following a tip-off, police conducted a raid in Chak No.120-JB area and arrested two drug pusher brothers Rafiq and Shabbir. The raiding team also recovered 47 bottles of liquor from their possession while further investigation in this regard is under progress.

Land dispute claims life

SUKKUR: A man was killed in exchange of fire between two groups over a land dispute in the limits of Phullo police station of Gambat on Sunday. The dispute—between Pir Raja Sain Rashdi and Pasha Khohro— occurred over the possession of a 300-acre piece of land. It led to an exchange of fire in which Arbello Fakir was killed. The incident created panic in the area.

Gas supply to three IPPs cut

LAHORE: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) on Sunday abruptly cut
gas supply to three Independent Power Producers (IPPs), producing electricity in the Punjab. According to a spokesman for the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), the SNGPL informed that gas supplies to Sapphire Power, Saif and Orient had been cut due to a technical fault in a gas field. However, the problem did not affect electricity generation as these plants were converted to HSD to meet peak demand, he said Meanwhile, a Pepco official claimed that there was no forced loadshedding in the country as demand and supply was being managed as per the announced load management plan.

No threat to Gomal Zam Dam during rains, says official

TANK: Authorities of the Gomal Zam project have ruled out any threat to the under-construction dam during the rainy season. Talking to reporters on Sunday, project director Karimul Haq urged the people to ignore rumours about likely flood in the area. He said due to less rains, water storage was touching dead level in the dam. The dam authorities were waiting for more rains so as to continue filling the reservoir. He said he himself visited the site to assess the situation and everything was functioning smoothly over there. “The discharge capacity of the dam was kept at mere 2,700 cusecs to cater to the agricultural needs of the area. This showed that the reservoir needed more water to store,” he said.

PPP rally in Hyd supports old system

HYDERABAD: Local PPP leaders and workers took out a rally on Sunday from the Zila Council Building to the Press Club here in support of the restoration of commissionerate system.
They said the government had fulfilled the people’s longstanding demand and the decision was strongly being widely lauded. Federal Minister for Law Maula Bux Chandio, provincial Minister for Fisheries Zahid Bhurgari and Aman Ullah Siyal, the acting PPP president of the Hyderabad district, also attended the rally, besides large number of workers. Sweets were also distributed on the occasion.
