Six Senate body chiefs re-elected unanimously

ISLAMABAD: Senators Saeed Ahmed Hashmi, Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Dr Khalid Ranjha, Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, Naeem Hussain Chattha and Muhammad Amjad Abbas were unanimously re-elected on Thursday chairmen of respective Senate standing committees.

Senate Secretary Iftikharullah Babar conducted the elections. Senator Saeed Hashmi was unanimously elected chairman of the Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development. His name was proposed by Minister of State Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli.

The Standing Committee on Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs and Tourism elected Senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhary as chairman. His name was proposed by Senator Fauzia Fakhar-uz-Zaman.

Senator Dr Khalid Ranjha was unanimously elected as chairman of the Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs. He was proposed by Wasim Sajjad, Leader of the House in the Senate.

Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, Naeem Hussain Chattha and Muhammad Amjad Abbas were unanimously elected Chairmen of Senate Standing Committees on Religious Affairs and Zakat and Ushr and Minorities Affairs; Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis, and Food, Agriculture and Livestock, respectively.

The name of Senator Maulana Sami-ul-Haq was proposed by Senator Kalsoom Perveen. The name of Senator Naeem Hussain Chattha was proposed by Senators Sahibzada Khalid Jan.

The Standing Committee on Food, Agriculture and Livestock unanimously approved the proposal of Senator Kalsoom Perveen to re-elect Senator Muhammad Amjad Abbas as chairman.
