KARACHI: Khurram Agha crashed to yet another defeat on the second day of the 36th NJI National Snooker Championship 2011 here at the Karachi Gymkhana’s Billiards Hall on Tuesday. A former Asia number three, Khurram Hussain Agha, who has been the country’s top ranked cueist for more than half of the last decade, found himself at the brink of elimination after suffering second successive defeat in as many days. Khurram, who had surrendered after a fierce seven-frame contest with Mohammad Asif on the opening day, fared even worse against Sharjeel Mahmood who knocked him over in just five frames. The former world champion, Mohammad Yousuf, however, came back in the reckoning with an impressive win over Qasim Kamani, after having been rolled over by Imran Qamar the other day. Naveen Kumar Perwani, another veteran on a mission of staging a forceful comeback, did his chances no harm with an easy win to maintain his unbeaten streak in the competition. Defending champion Mohammad Sajjad extended his winning streak as did last year’s runner-up Asjad Iqbal top seeded Imran Shahzad and seed Sohail Shahzad all of whom made it two victories in as many outings. Rambail Gul of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, having clinched a national ranking event at the same venue a few years ago, also recorded his second win on a trot to boost his chances of storming into the pre-quarter-finals.
