MNA to face two criminal charges over fake degree

October 02, 2010
ISLAMABAD: As the Election Commission has started calling the MPs holding fake degrees for personal hearing, one of the MNAs who had submitted two fake degrees with the commission is likely to face two criminal cases -- one from the EC and second from the university, which has also decided to initiate legal action against him for concealing facts.
In an interesting fashion, Rana Zahid Hussain Khan, a PML-N MNA from Pakpattan, has submitted two fake graduation degrees with the EC -- one from the Punjab University when he contested 2002 polls and lost, and second from the Balochistan University when he won the 2008 election. He tempered with his intermediate degree, and has been caught on that too.
The controller examination of the Balochistan University has recently submitted in written before the Lahore High Court that Rana has concealed facts and tempered with the intermediate degree.
Documents reveal that in the 2002 election, Rana Zahid Hussain Khan submitted a graduation degree of Punjab University bearing roll number 066539 and registration number 2002-z-27760. The examination for this certificate was held in April-May 2002. Punjab University on October 3, 2002 cancelled this certificate on grounds of non-provision of intermediate certificate.
In the election of 2008, Rana Zahid submitted a graduation certificate of Balochistan University, which he claimed that he passed in 2007. His second graduation certificate bears roll number 2600 and registration number 2002/UB-2006/A-94103.
His degrees were challenged in the Lahore High Court where the University of Balochistan controller examination on September 21, 2010 has submitted that as per deputy registrar of the University of Balochistan, letter 69/4-Reg/10 dated 16-06-2010 the registration number 2002/UB-2006/A-94103 mentioned by the candidate on the examination form has been allotted to Mr Aurngzeb Magsi s/o Muhammad Akram Magsi, not to Rana Zahid Hussain s/o Rana Muhammad Sharif Khan.
The

registrar of the University of Balochistan sent his HSC Certificate to the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi for the purpose of verification. The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi has verified his HSC certificate as Supplementary Examination 2004 and not Annual 2004.
Therefore, he submitted his examination documents for BA/BSC Annual Examination 2006, by making forgery in his statement of marks bearing number 00025-169-0, intermediate certificate by changing the supplementary 2004 and attached it with the examination form to fulfil the two years gap to appear in the BA/BSC Annual Examination 2006.
He was not eligible to appear in the BA/BSc Annual Examination 2006, but he submitted his examination form by tempering with the intermediate certificate. On the basis of evidence attached with the examination form and later on verification by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Karachi. The examination section of the University of Balochistan has requested the authorities for the constitution of a committee to probe into the matter of concealment of facts and to make legal action against Mr Rana Zahid Hussain s/o Raza Muhammad Sharif Khan.
Rana Zahid Hussain Khan was not available for his comments on Friday; however, a few weeks back he was contacted by this correspondent on the same issue and he had said the HEC was verifying the degrees and let the process complete. “My case is also sub judice; therefore, it should not be discussed,” he added. About the year of passing of his graduation degree, Rana Zahid said it was 2007 when he passed the examination, but when asked if his graduation was of 2007 then how he contested the 2002 election as graduation degree was a must for it, Zahid thought for a while and said: “My case is sub judice”.
When was asked about his two graduation certificates, one from the Punjab University and one from the Balochistan University, the PML-N MNA replied: “I had passed BA much earlier than 2002”. When told about his own statement of 2007 graduation, Rana Zahid mentioned that it was slip of the tongue.
