KARACHI: Diya FC midfielder Misha Dawood, who was killed in the last week’s plane crash, was declared the best woman player of the Sixth National Women Football Championship by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat.
“It will be known as the ‘Misha Dawood Trophy’ from now onwards in the annual National Women Championship,” said Faisal, adding, “It’s difficult to think that Misha is no more in the playing arena and it is a big disappointment for her colleagues and women football family.”
Misha, born on August 21, 1990 in Lahore, rose to prominence two years back when she scored a hat-trick against Sindh in the inaugural National Women Football Club Championship at the Colony Sports Stadium, Malir Town, Karachi.
A second-year student in the University of California, Berkeley, Misha was an emerging footballer.
She was called “Maradona” by her teammates.
“She was probably one of the most brilliant humans I’ve known,” said Mariam Laghari, a club-mate of Misha.
“She knew exactly how to make you laugh and no matter what. That was the best thing about her.”
Meanwhile the media manager of Diya FC Raees Khan thanked Faisal for showering honour on Misha by dedicating the best woman footballer award to her.
