Women Week at FJWU ends with exciting events

The Annual Women’s Week at Fatima Jinnah Women University concluded with a gala of exciting events here on Saturday.

The last day of the three days activities began with the Software Programming Competition. Software Programming Competition provides a platform to the students to demonstrate their creative talent and skills. The competition is designed to test students’ knowledge, endurance and business insight key skills that are needed to work in the job market.

Eight different universities from all over the country participated in the event. The participants exhibited immense talent and potential through their work. FJWU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan was the chief guest on the occasion. The judges for Software Programming competition were Dr Afaq Hussain, Head of CS Department, Air University and Asim Munir, Assistant Professor, International Islamic University.

In the Software Programming Competition, Mohammad Salman Anjum and Anjum Khan from Islamic University Bhawalpur stood first, Mohammad Shahzad and Zainab Malik from NUML stood second and Shumaila Batool from Islamic Intíl University stood third.

The chief guest gave away the prizes to the winners and encouraged the participants to carry forward the same enthusiasm, confidence and healthy competition into their professional lives. The VC praised the participants and congratulated the award-winning students.

The second and the most widely anticipated event of the day was ‘Short Film and Documentary Competition’ held between the seven participating teams from different universities. The short films and documentaries were presented under the theme, ‘Knowledge, Peace and Our World’. Sarmad Sehbai was the chief guest whereas Ms. Tereza Engelove was the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion Sarmad Sehbai appreciated the efforts of the contestants.

The winner of the Short Film and Documentary Competition was Hamid Zaman and Shahbaz Israr Khan of Gomal University, Asadullah Cheema of Punjab University stood second, while third position went to Bushra Tufail and Bushra Komal of FJWU and Ali Faizan of UET, Texila, as per traditions of the host university, FJWU withdrew in favour of UET, Texila. Resultantly, the third position went to Ali Faizan of UET, Texila.

A host of contests like table tennis, lawn tennis, volleyball and badminton were a part of the sports activities that held during the women week 2009. The students participated in these events with utmost zeal and enthusiasm. The electrifying atmosphere maintained during the events reflected the excitement and involvement of the audience in sports. The concluding ceremony of Sports Competition was the highlight of the third day of the Women’s Week, 2009.

Professor Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan presided over the ceremony as chief guest. The closing ceremony brought laurels to the winners. She appreciated the versatile talent of the students and distributed prizes amongst the victorious students. Bahria University, Islamabad was the winner of sports trophy. Fatima Jinnah Women University and Islamic University, Islamabad, stood second. FJWU being Host University withdrew in favour of Islamic University.

While speaking on the occasion the vice chancellor appreciated the enthusiasm and passion of the participants. She said that healthy activities like sports are necessary to groom and nourish the talents of the students. She also appreciated the efforts of the sports committee for conducting such activities.

Earlier the second day of the women week concluded with Mehfil-e-Mushaira in the evening. Vice Chancellor FJWU Professor Dr Saeeda Asadullah Khan was the chief guest. The panel of the judges comprised of Sarfraz Shahid, Noreen Talat Arooba, Mehmooda Ghazia and Shama Khalid.

The topic for Nazam category was ‘Aman’. For Ghazal category, the theme was ‘Keun Tari Negahon Sy Laraztay Nahin Aflaak’. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance of the participants. As per decision of the judges, first position in Nazam was won by Bilal Chughtai of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore; Shahid Bilal of Punjab University got second position, while Muhammad Irfan of Islamia University, Bahawalpur was declared as the holder of third position.

In the category of Gazal, Muhammad Usman Maqbool, from University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore, was the winner of first position, Hammad Niazi from Punjab University, Lahore, won second position, and Ali Farrukh Kazmi of University of Sargodha got third position. University of Engineering and Technology stole the show by winning the trophy. The vice chancellor really appreciated the efforts of the participants and gave away shields to the judges, and prizes to the winning students.

The last day of women’s week concluded with enthralling performance of the participants in the Singing Competition. The participants kept the audience charged up throughout the contest. The competition was divided into two categories, Sada-e-Aman and Sham-e-Agahi. Tahira Syed, a famous Gazal singer and legendary voice of Pakistan graced the occasion as chief guest. The judges for the event were, Shahanshah Niazi, Rukhsana Murtaza and Sonia Azeem. The chief guest Tahira Syed appreciated the efforts of the young participants and entertained the audience with her performance.
