Nadra provides 85,000 MRPs to Kenya

The system developed by National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for issuance of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) is working efficiently in Kenya and around 85,000 passports have been issued to Kenyan residents using the system, Gerald Otieno Kajwang, Kenyan Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons said here on Thursday.

During his visit along with a Kenyan delegation to NADRA Headquarter here, he said, “We need technical expertise and exchange of best practices acquired by Nadra.” He said the Kenyan government has awarded a contract to NADRA to design, develop and implement MRP project after a comprehensive Pre-Qualification and Tendering Process.

Nadra implemented the project on time and within the budget, seeing the efficiency of Nadra, Government of Kenya has shown its interest in Nadra’s CNIC project also.

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chairman NADRA said that “Kenya and Pakistan share the same cultural, political, and security challenges so it is natural that we share each other’s experiences and improve service delivery using proven technological solutions.

The delegation was given detailed presentation on various national and international projects implemented by Nadra, especially its capabilities in implementing the Multi-Biometrics National Identity Card Project and Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) in Pakistan.”

Participants were briefed that citizen’s database maintained by Nadra is not only geared to support its own existing products but also is a validated reservoir for providing useful statistical and planning information of Pakistani citizens to various Government Agencies as well as commercial organizations.

Delegation witnessed and appreciated the deployment of state-of-the-art data entry and acquisition system deployed by Nadra at a Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) site at Rawalpindi.

The delegation also made courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Advisor on Interior at the Ministry of Interior A Rehman Malik which was also attended by other higher officials.

Rehman A Malik, PM Advisor on Interior extended cooperation to the Government of Kenya in Biometrics Registration, Border Control Solutions and Training for Kenyan Police Officers.

The Kenyan delegates were also given demonstration about NADRA’s various ongoing projects, which included KIOSKs, Automated Border Control, E-Toll, Vehicles Identification and Management System (VIMS) and other projects.

They appreciated NADRA, its products and services and appreciated their all out efforts towards technological advancement.

Kenyan High Commissioner, Mischi Masika Mwatahu thanked Government of Pakistan and NADRA for their hospitality and cooperation.
