Rally staged against merger of hospitals

SWABI: The activists of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Thursday staged a protest demonstration against the government decision to merge the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) into Shahmansoor Hospital Complex.PTI along with Chemists and Druggists Association activists gave the protest call and leaders of other political parties also joined the demonstration. Chairman of Swabi Qaumi Ittehad, Dr Muhammad Salim, Iftikhar Ahmad, district president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Shah Wali PTI information secretary addressed the protesters.



Students demand college up-gradation

PESHAWAR: The activists of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT), Government College, Thursday staged a protest demonstration and demanded of the authorities concerned to upgrade the institute to postgraduate level.Addressing the protesters outside the press club, nazim of the college Qazi Bilal Afridi said the Government College Peshawar was the largest college of the province with an enrolment of more than 3,000 students. He said all the major cities of the province have post graduate colleges while the provincial metropolis has no such facility. “The college has enough space as well as highly-qualified teaching staff but yet to be upgraded to post graduate level,” he said.



IDPs stage rally

PESHAWAR: Internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Mohmand Agency Thursday staged a protest rally against lack of facilities at various camps established for them. Led by Jangriz Khan, the angry protesters were holding placards and chanting slogans against the government. The speakers alleged that majority of civilians were targeted in the ongoing military operation in Mohmand Agency. They said the government-established camps at Jalozai and other areas lack basic facilities. They alleged that the government officials were not giving them the aid it

receives from various organisations. They said on one side their homes were bombed, they became refugees; while on the other side they were being deprived of the aid. They demanded of the government to immediately halt the operation in Mohmand Agency and compensate the displaced people.

KOHAT: The bomb disposal squad (BDS) defused a remote-controlled bomb weighing 12 kilograms planted by unidentified miscreants near the building of Inter-Services Selection Board (ISSB) Mess here Thursday.



Vehicle snatched

KOHAT: Unidentified armed men snatched an official pickup near Ghulam Banda Afghan Camp on Sheen Dhand Road on Thursday. Sources said Engineer Fazal Muhammad and Niamat Ali were on their way to SNGPL worksite at Lachi from Turkikhel area of FR Kohat in an official pickup (LZB-7425) when unidentified gunmen intercepted them near Afghan Camp on Sheen Dhand Road and snatched the van at gunpoint.



Blood camps

PESHAWAR: The Frontier Foundation Welfare Hospital and Blood Transfusion Services held camps at different places in this provincial capital Thursday. A press release issued here stated that the foundation held camps in Garhi Zahir Shah, Shahi Bala, Wahid Garhi Charsadda Road, Kundi Mughalzi and Tehkal Bala localities where 50 bags of blood were collected from people for thallasaemia and hemophilia patients. Speaking on the occasion, Aslam Marwat, public relations officer of the Frontier Foundation, urged people to donate blood for the cause of ailing humanity. He said the growing number of people suffering from the disease had been registered by the foundation for free treatment with required blood. “People should undergo a B-electroprosis test for thallasaemia before their marriage. If a couple carrying minor thallasaemia germ, then they should carefully review their idea of marriage as their offspring would be infected with major thallasaemia which will make them dependable on the blood of other people for lifetime,” he said.
