QUETTA: One person was killed while another sustained bullet wounds when armed clash erupted between two rival groups here at Sariab Road, in the jurisdiction of Sariab police station, late on Monday night. Police said the motive behind the incident could not be ascertained immediately and added that apparently it seemed to be an old enmity. Police identified the deceased as Hamidullah and the injured as Saleem, who was taken to hospital for treatment.
Hearing in Musharraf’s case adjourned
RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Terrorist Court, Rawalpindi, adjourned hearing of the ëfiring at the Musharrafís plane caseí till January 2. The Judge ATC-II, Sakhi Kahut, directed the prosecution here on Monday to submit a Challan of the case on next date of hearing. The accused, Dr Niaz and Mazhar-ul-Haq, have been charged with firing at the former president’s plane.
52 Afghans sentenced to jail
QUETTA: Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judge Taftan Asadullah Raisani on Monday awarded 20-day rigorous imprisonment each to 52 Afghan nationals under the Foreigners Act. These people had crossed the border and entered into Pakistan without any legal document.
Fateha offered in Senate for Gakhar Plaza victims
ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Monday offered Fateha for the victims of Gakhar Plaza, after Senator Babar Ghori raised the issue on a point of order. The mover said besides the loss of precious lives, the business community also suffered a lot in the tragedy and added that the affected traders and employees should be compensated. Leader of the House in Senate, Raza Rabbani told the Upper House that the provincial government has issued an inquiry in this regard and a report would be submitted before the Senate, as soon as the probe is completed.

Baloch nationalists demand control of Gwadar Port
QUETTA: Baloch nationalists on Monday urged the government to halt the alleged security forces operations in parts of the province and hand over the control of Gwadar deep seaport to the Baloch people.Speaking at a conference entitled Protection of Balochistan Resources here, Balochistan National Party (Mengal) Secretary-General Habib Jalib, National Party’s Muheem Khan Baloch, Haji Hayatullah Jamaldini of the Baloch Republican Party and Nawab Muhammad Khan Shawani stressed the need for forging unity among all the Baloch factions to get their problems solved. The speakers of the conference also demanded repatriation of all the Afghan refugees present in the province to their homeland.
