The heritage building has an interesting history. l According to a document provided by the KCCI President Nisar, the City Deputy Collector of Karachi signed the lease documents of the plot of the Chamber No. 2A, Sheet No. B/3 (old number) on November 18, 1919 to lease for 99 years from October 4, 1862 onward.
l On October 14, 1933 Plot No. 2A, Sheet No. B-3 (old number) survey No. 10, SR-2(new number) of building, measuring 4250 Sq.Yards was purchased by the Karachi Indian Merchants Association at the rate of Rs 27/- per Sq. Yards costing Rs 114,750/-.
l On October 14, 1943, the Muslim Chamber of Commerce, Karachi was incorporated and registered under Indian Companies Act, 1913-Registration No. 96 of 1943-44.
l On March 19, 1949, The Muslim Chamber of Commerce, Karachi changed its name to Chamber of Commerce, Pakistan, under Indian Companies Act 1913.
l On February 12, 1958, the Custodian of Evacuee Property South Zone in respect of case Misc. No. 57 and 58 of 1957 giving reference of the Order of the Assistant Custodian passed on February 17, 1950, confirmed that the PMA Building at Nicol Road is not Evacuee Property and the Pakistan Merchants Association Karachi were within their rights to recover rents of the same from their tenants.
l On November 18, 1958, the Ministry of Commerce, Government of Pakistan issued a notification No. 333/101/57 EP.III for re-organisation of the Chambers and Associations of trade and industry in Pakistan and decided to reorganise the Chamber of Commerce and Industry representing several trade and industry in specified areas and normally be named after the name of city.
l On January 16, 1958, All Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Karachi, through a special resolution passed at special General Body Meeting of the Chamber, held on January 16, 1960, merged with the Chamber with all its assets and liabilities.
l The Pakistan Merchants Association was winded up
through a winding up resolution adopted as a special resolution in the Extra-Ordinary General Meeting of the Association held on January 20, 1960 in the PMA Building. The Association was merged into the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Karachi, registered under Companies Act, 1913 with Registration No. 757 dated October 28, 1959.
l On January 26, 1960 the Buyers & Shippers Chamber, Karachi merged with the Chamber with all its assets and liabilities, through its special resolution passed in the extra-Ordinary General Meeting held on January 26, 1960.
l On February 1, 1960 Pakistan Merchants Association handed over all the properties, assets to Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Karachi, including PMA building.
l On February 28, 1961, the then President of the Chamber Mr Mohammad Hanif vide his letter dated February 28, 1961 to city deputy collector requested to transfer the ownership of PMA Building to the Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Karachi as four Chambers in Karachi viz Buyers and Shippers Chamber (BSC), and All Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (APCCI) have merged with the Chamber with all their assets and liabilities.
l On January 14, 1963, the Pakistan Merchants Association vide its letter dated January 14, 1963, to the city deputy collector, Karachi gave No Objection Certificate to the Chamber of Commerce & Industry to whom the ex-Pakistan Merchants Association has wholly merged.
l On January 26, 1963 the city deputy collector, Karachi transferred the title of the building to Chamber of Commerce & Industry and issued the extract from the Property Registrar, District Karachi on January 26, 1963.
