November 27, 2008
ABBOTTABAD: Former provincial minister and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Sardar Muhammad Idrees on Wednesday announced to join the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

He was addressing a rally at Dhobighaat here. Sardar Idrees contested the 2002 election as an independent candidate from PF-48 constituency. He joined the JUI-F after his election and was named the provincial minister for local government.

He lost the next election to Barrister Javed Abbasi of the PML-N. After formal announcement by the Election Commission in this regard, he led a demonstration and damaged public property. The police arrested him along with dozens of his party workers on the charge of damaging the public property.

It was learnt that he had sought bail from the local court for his release but the court turned down his bail application and sent him back to jail. Sources said Idrees had been in negotiation with the provincial leadership of the PPP for the last few months and finally decided to join the party.
