The unidentified dacoit succumbed to his wounds on the spot while the injured ASI was rushed to a local hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
4 criminals held

THE Shahdara Town police arrested four people for being involved in heinous crimes and recovered a car, a bike and illegal weapons from them. Those arrested were identified as Baggi, Nasar Ali, Asif and Mohsan Raza. The police claimed that the accused were involved in murders and dacoities, besides receiving Jagga tax from the citizens.

MALIHA Sheikh of Cathedral School for Girls, 4 Church Road, Lahore, secured the fourth position among girls in the science group in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Matric Annual Examinations, 2008. She got 805 marks. Overall result of the school was 91 percent.

‘PTI to fully support lawyers movement’
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday has said the PTI and the APDM would fully support the lawyers’ movement starting from August 14. Talking to PTI Lahore president Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed on telephone, according to a press statement, Imran said after Musharraf’s impeachment and ouster, it should be ensured that no US agent was installed as the next president of the country. He also stressed that if ruling coalition, under any pretext, failed to charge Musharraf with treason under Article 6, the masses would not tolerate such an act of mercy. —Correspondent

Poisoned man dies

A 45-year-old man died in a hospital on Sunday, shortly after he was found unconscious in Lohari Gate police area. The victim, identified as Sharafat Ali, a resident of Ahmad Park, Badami Bagh, and his friend Ahmad went to Data Darbar to offer fateha. Some unidentified swindlers offered them some intoxicated substance, as a result, both fell unconscious on their way to Lohari. They were removed to a hospital where Sharaft died. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old man died in a local hospital who was found unconscious in Gawalmandi police area.
‘Teacher training can improve standard of education’

CHAIRMAN Task Force on Elementary Education has said that by providing training of administrative and financing rules to newly recruited headmasters, standard of school education can be raised, as these trained heads of the institutions can play a pivotal role to ensure a proper functioning of the schools. Raja Muhammad Anwar expressed these views while addressing the concluding session of a training course for new headmasters and headmistresses held under the aegis of Directorate of Staff Development (DSD). As many as 138 headmasters/ headmistresses participated in the course. Raja Anwar further said that it was encouraging that training course had been planed in the light of new research in the field of teachers’ training.
Blood donation camp

THE Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WCCI) will organise a blood donation camp at Alhmara Cultural Complex on August 20. Addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Sunday, WCCI President Dr Shela Javeed Akram said the WCCI had formed an organising committee for the “Blood Drive.” She said general public would be requested to donate blood. She said that during the drive famous actors, singers would perform there. The drive is being started in collaboration with the Sudus Foundation, Fatimeed Foundation, Ali Zaib Foundation, Umeed Foundation Pakistan, Punjab Blood Bank, Islamic Alliance Trust, Red Crescent Pakistan and Rotri Club, Lahore. During the camp, free blood screening of the blood donors will be done.
‘Impeachment to strengthen democracy’

He said unity among political parties for impeachment of president would lead to strengthening of democracy in the country. Cash prizes for outstanding teachers

THE Special Education minister has disclosed that the CM has approved cash prizes for teachers showing best performance in “Universal Enrolment Campaign Scheduled” to be started on 14 August. Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar stated that the best performers would be awarded the cash prize of Rs 10,000 per head. He said the main objective of the campaign was to enroll the children who were still out of schools and the opening ceremonies of the campaign would be an important part of the I-Day celebrations.
Two bodies found
TWO people were found dead in the city on Sunday. Liaqatabad police found the body of a 35-year-old man at Subzi Mandi. The police claimed that unidentified man was an addict. Meanwhile, the Old Anarkali police recovered the body of a 70-year-old man from Cycle Market, Neela Gumbad. The deceased looked an addict who had died of natural causes, the police claimed. —Correspondent
