KOHAT: Security forces on Thursday seized a huge cache of arms on Indus Highway near Lachi toll plaza and arrested four alleged smugglers. Sources told The News that the forces recovered a large quantity of arms from a passenger bus when it was stopped for a routine check. The recovery included one RPG-7 rocket, two LMGs, one telescope gun, 11 Kalashnikov rifles, three pistols, two telescopes, 28 boxes of fuses, 12 hand grenades, four boxes having gun powder and ammunition. The Anti Narcotics Force arrested four alleged smugglers identified as Raj Wali, driver Mumtaz Khan and Munawar Khan.
PPP-S leader survives attack in Swat

MINGORA: PPP-S Swat President Sher Shah Khan on Thursday survived an assassination attempt, sources said. Sher Shah Khan and his son Liaquat Ali were returning home when unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Kuza Bandi area. The guards of Sher Shah returned thr fire and the attackers fled, the sources added.
Thatta EDO cancels fraudulent entries

THATTA: Executive District Officer (EDO), Revenue, Nasir Abbas Soomro, on Thursday cancelled fraudulent and counterfeit entries in the Record of Rights Form
VII. The EDO Revenue took the action against the counterfeit and forged entries in the Form VII in respect of land measuring 1,878.06 acres of Deh Gharo of Mirpursakro Taluka after he got such instructions from the Board of Revenue (BoR), Sindh. According to the District Information Officer, Thatta, Shah Mohammad Mughal, the action was initiated under the Section 164 of Sindh Land Revenue Act 1967 on Thursday after the EDO Revenue received the orders from BoR Sindh. He said the present market value of the cancelled land was Rs 2,248 million.
PPPP candidates for two reserved seats announced
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday declared Aisha Khoso and Shamim Ara Panhwar as PPPP candidates for two vacant seats reserved for women in the Sindh Assembly. After resignations of Dr Mahreen Razzaque Bhutto and Shagufta Jumani of PPPP, two seats reserved for women in the provincial assembly of Sindh became vacant. According to the priority list provided by Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians on November 26, due to the resignations of two candidates, the next two names had been declared as candidates for seats reserved for women in the Sindh Assembly.

Demo against release of Indian spy, death of Pak citizen

HYDERABAD: The workers of Fundamental Rights Commission of Pakistan on Thursday here staged a protest against the killing of a Pakistani citizen in India. The protesters started gathering outside the Hyderabad Press Club where they raised anti government slogans for releasing Kashmir Singh in return for a body of Khalid Mahmood. Addressing the protesters, the rights commission representatives Abdul Jabbar Rehmani, Anisur Rehman, Kauser Parveen and others lashed out at Caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney, for managing the release of the Indian spy and keeping criminal silence over the death of Pakistani citizen Khalid Mahmood in an Indian jail. They demanded of the government to register with Indian authorities a strong protest against the death of Khalid Mahmood.
Arrangements for Bhutto’s death anniversary discussed

LARKANA: In connection with preparations for the 29th death anniversary of late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on April 4, a meeting of the Mazaar Committee was held at the Naudero House here on Thursday. The meeting, chaired by PPP Sindh President and Sindh chief minister-designate Qaim Ali Shah, was attended by PPP Larkana President and MPA-elect Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, MPAs-elect Pir Mazharul Haq Junejo, Sassui Palejo, Anwar Ali Mahar, DCO Larkana, DPO Larkana and others. The participants monitored the arrangements and decided to facilitate the people. The police and the SPSF activists were also directed to take strict security arrangements.
Officers warned against negligence

BADIN: District Nazim Badin Ali Anwar Halepoto on Thursday cautioned officers of all district government departments to solve people's problems without causing any delay or be ready to face transfers. The Nazim said the EDOs of education and health departments held the main public offices under the local government ordinance but they hesitated to approve decisions pertaining to public welfare. However, he added that the officers did take prompt actions where they found their personal interests were being served He warned them that if their old anti-people policies continued any further, they would be transferred out of the district.
‘Govt committed to wiping out terrorism’
ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz Khan on Thursday reiterated the government's commitment for elimination of terrorism and extremism. He said all possible measures would be utilised for curbing the menace of terrorism which is posing a great threat to the society as well as socioeconomic development of the country. He was talking to a delegation of NUMAL University students, who called on him here at his office. The minister said the country's role in the war against terrorism is not only acknowledged locally but the international community has also appreciated the efforts.
