The Rise Of Gru, the latest entry in the globe’s biggest animated franchise, has set some new milestones internationally with four markets scoring the biggest animation opening weekend of all time and 52 markets setting the best animated launch of the pandemic.

Paramount and Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick now ranks 15th on the all-time domestic chart between Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ($515 million in 2019) and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ($532 million in 2016). It’s now the second-biggest-grossing movie since The Lion King ($543 million). With a new overseas total of $487 million, Tom Cruise’s $170 million legacy sequel has now earned $1.005 billion worldwide.

Universal’s Jurassic World Dominion stomped past the $800M mark globally — only the 4th Hollywood title to get there since the start of the pandemic. With $824.5M, it is the No. 3 film of 2022 worldwide.

Netflix crashed after Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 release

Netflix’s streaming service was unavailable for a brief period after the highly anticipated release of the final two episodes of Stranger Things 4.

According to global uptime-monitoring site Downdetector.com, user reports of problems with Netflix spiked when Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 went live.

Stranger Things 4 already has set the record as the No. 1 English-language series on the service in its first four weeks of release, as reported by Netflix based on total hours watched.
