District consumer courts are being given wide publicity by the Punjab government. The list of complaints to be dealt by these courts suggests that the existing departments have been absolved of their duties to stop malpractices. To seek relief, aggrieved consumers have to travel to district headquarters to seek remedy. As such rarely anyone will come forward to seek relief.
The Punjab CM is requested to introduce a system to evaluate the cost effectiveness of each department for reorganisation or amalgamation. This measure would help in better governance and protecting and helping mostly poor people near their homes.
