KARACHI: The leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Sheikh, on Monday said the arrest of six policemen of the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) police Jamshoro by Rangers personnel who found 65 kilogrammes of charas on them was ample proof that police officials were carrying out dirty business in the province.
Sheikh, who is also a central vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), alleged in a press statement that Sarwar Rahupoto, the younger brother of Sikandar Ali Rahupoto, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA from Jamshoro, was directly involved in that big scam.
He that Rahupoto himself was involved in the smuggling of contraband from Jamshoro to Karachi but he was yet to be arrested.
He asked the PPP leaders to come up with a clear stance over the arrest and recovery of charas by the Rangers from a police van.
According to Sheikh, Rahupoto had been serving as the de facto in-charge of the CIA police in Jamshoro for the past eight years.
“The in-charge of CIA police has often been seen hobnobbing with government officials along with his brother MNA Sikandar Rahupoto during his official activities and he has also been photographed with the PPP leadership a number of times,” he added.
The PTI leader alleged that the recovery of charas from the police van clearly indicated that police officials of Sindh were not only allowing drug dealers to roam freely in every part of the province but they themselves had become involved in direct drug dealings using police vehicles.
Sheikh apprehended that the charas seized from the arrested cops might be sent to the same laboratory that had declared wine bottles found in PPP MPA Sharjeel Inam Memon’s room to be bottles of honey.
He recalled that the bottles of wine were found in Memon’s hospital room by then chief justice of Pakistan in a surprise visit. Memon was under arrest that time and had been transferred to the hospital for medical treatment.
The PTI leader demanded of high-ups of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to launch a massive crackdown in the entire province.
