UoP Senate approves Rs4204m budget for 2021-22

PESHAWAR: The Senate of the University of Peshawar has approved a Rs4204 million budget for the university.

A press release said the Senate meeting was chaired by Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Higher Education Kamran Bangash at the Governor’s House. UoP Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Idrees, Registrar Saifullah Khan, Treasurer Ayesha Salman, Justice (r) Syed Afsar Shah, secretary higher education, additional secretary finance, MPA Pir Fida, Dr Aziz, Dr Rasool Khan, Rashid Ali Jan and Dr Sar Buland.

On the occasion, Dr Idrees informed the participants about the university’s financial position and budget. The provincial government authorities appreciated the UoP’s budget for the financial year 2021-22.

Speaking at the event, Dr Idrees said that the university required Rs968 million during the period from 2009 to 2019 for increase in salaries and pensions. He said the provincial government and Higher Education Commission assisted the university and prioritised higher education.

Kamran Bangash said on the occasion that a pleasant environment in universities could help both teachers and students in ensuring quality education.

Share of exam section ended: Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor has ended any share of the exam section of the university in the degree verification fees, with an aim to resolve financial issues of the institution.

A spokesman for the university said that the share of the staff of the exam section in degree verification fees had been decided by the syndicate meetings of 1990 and later in 2012. However, the incumbent vice-chancellor stopped this share of the exam section in the fees, as he said that the university employees should cooperate to make the university financially independent.
