Mahira Khan refuses to get up close and personal with Raees co-star

The darling of the Pakistani film industry, Mahira Khan, has been making waves both locally and across the border with her recent and upcoming releases. And while the talented actress has stressed her desire to embrace edgier roles, it seems she’s in no hurry to shed off her modest image completely just yet. If recent reports in the Indian media are to be believed, Mahira has put her foot down when it came to shooting an intimate scene for her upcoming Bollywood debut Raees, which pits her against Shah Rukh Khan.

Reportedly, the script asked for Mahira’s character to be involved in an intimate scene with co-star Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who plays a tough cop and the nemesis to SRK’s Raees. According to a source, “ Mahira plays Nawaz’s glam doll in the film before Raees sweeps her off her feet. And that wasn’t a very happy relationship. The scene is pretty edgy, dark and somewhat brutal which has Nawaz forcing himself on her.”

It turns out that the sequence proved to be too unsettling for Mahira and she couldn’t bring herself to go ahead with it. While it remains to be seen how the producers will handle this new development, kudos to the actress for standing her ground and not compromising on her principles by doing something she was clearly uncomfortable with.

In a recent interview, he spoke about competing with fellow Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan, who might be just one film old like Imran but has managed to gather a huge fan following post the successfulKhoobsurat.“We have worked together on a show in Pakistan. If there would’ve been comparisons and I would’ve been competitive, I would’ve never worked on a show where two actors were there. I played the role of his elder brother. So, I never compare myself. I think a person destroys himself if he starts comparing with others.Fawad is brilliant and he is doing wonderful. I always pray for his success,” Imran said.

While the actor plans to return to the Pakistani film industry soon, he also revealed that he was apprehensive about taking on a project for Indian television. “The soap operas here have many episodes, and you need to give six months to one year for the show. In Pakistan, an actor shoots for one month and the show runs for four months on air,” he said.

Jaanisaaris directed by the legendary Muzaffar Ali ofUmrao Jaan Ada fame and has Imran playing a prince in pre-partition India. Stylist Pernia Qureishi plays his love interest in the period romance.
