Rekha abandons Fitoor and is quickly replaced by Tabu

Veteran actress Rekha, whose beauty Bollywood swears by and whose acting prowess gave us hits like Umrao Jan and Silsila, has abandoned her upcoming film Fitoor post-shoot. The 60-year-old actress who was expected to play the role of the manipulative and vampy Miss Havisham in the Indian adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations, left the film and has been replaced by Tabu almost overnight as ‘Begum’.

While various sources close to the film have cited different reasons for the actress’s departure such as her unhappiness with the way her character turned out, the real reason according to reports by Daily News and Analysis (DNA) seems to be creative differences between Rekha and the director of the film, Abhishek Kapoor.

According to the report, an actor who’s a part of Fitoor was quoted saying, “They just couldn’t see eye-to-eye on how Rekha’s character was to be interpreted. Abhishek had one image in mind, Rekha had another. They were working at cross-purposes. Neither party was happy with the end results.”

While Tabu was last seen in the Shahid Kapoor starrer Haider in the role of Kapoor’s mother, one has to wait and see as to how effectively can the actress replace the diva-esque allure that Rekha brought to the film. Fitoor was expected to hit the screens in December of this year but has now been delayed till February 2016. The film is being produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, and stars Katrina Kaif and Aditya Roy Kapur as main leads.
