Ten years after he made his debut as an actor with Syed Noor’s Sargam, Adnan Sami Khan is set to return to the screen. The musician took to social media to make the announcement on Friday, posting on his official Facebook page, “People are asking me about the role in my debut film… so here it goes… I am about to play a conman, who is inefficient and not a bright person, a clumsy character. It’s an intelligent script. In the next few months, the film will go on floors.”

Adnan, who is no stranger to Bollywood where his music remains vastly popular, says he is very excited to make his second foray into acting. His first stint was quite a successful one, with the real life couple of Adnan and Zeba Bakhtiar creating magic on screen.

While no further details about the Bollywood project have been divulged, we’re at least glad to know that he won’t be playing the role of love-struck college Romeo – a crime that middle-aged actors in the film industry continue to commit!

International Emmy Kids Award eludes

Burka Avenger has made Pakistan proud. Its high production quality has allowed it to vie internationally for awards such as the Peabody, which the show won in 2013. The children’s TV show has also earned worldwide critical acclaim for providing a positive role model for girls, for which it was named one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential Fictional Characters of 2013 and also won the Gender Equity Award in Germany in the same year.

However, Burka Avenger’s luck ran out at the 3rd International Emmy Kids Awards held in New York City on Friday. The show was nominated in the Kids Animation category, in which it was vying against three other children’s TV productions from around the world, including The Jungle Bunch to the Rescue (France), The Amazing Journey of Zamba (Argentina), and Strange Hill High (UK). The Jungle Bunch came out on top in the category; the adventure drama follows a group of seven animal heroes as they set about righting wrongs in the jungle where they reside.

Still, we feel that Burka Avenger’s nomination alone is a reason to celebrate, as its production houses, such as Haroon Rashid’s Unicorn Black, that is putting Pakistani entertainment on the world map. Burka Avenger is now airing its second season, and we wish it even more success in this run.
