Commissioner for providing relief to common man

GUJRANWALA: Commissioner Gulzar Hussain Shah Thursday said it is the duty of the district administration to provide relief to the common man.

Addressing a video link meeting on price control at his office, the commissioner said performance of every price magistrate is being monitored closely at the Commissioner Office.

During the on-going crackdown against profiteers, 4,119 shopkeepers and traders were fined Rs 9.1 million and 90 FIRs were registered against those involved in over-charging, hoarding and other offences.

Some 74 people were arrested from different parts of the region during the month of April.

Addressing the meeting, the commissioner said all price control magistrates of the division have been given free hand to take action against influential profiteers and hoarders and shopkeepers in public interest. He said it is the duty of the district administration to ensure provision of relief to the common man at any cost and performance of each district and price magistrate was being monitored closely at the Commissioner Office on regular basis.

He said maximum relief would be ensured to the poor and no leniency would be tolerated on the part of price control magistrates in this regard.

It was told in the meeting that in the district Gujranwala 782 profiteers were imposed Rs 2.4 million fine, in Gujrat 725 profiteers were fined Rs Rs.1.4 million, DC Hafizabad imposed fine of Rs 800,000 on 576 shopkeepers, DC Sialkot imposed Rs 2.4 million fine on 1,098 profiteers, in Narowal 298 profiteers were fined Rs 500,000 and DC Mandi Bahauddin imposed Rs.1.4 million on 640 profiteers this month.

NINE CRIMINALS HELD: Police have arrested nine criminals and recovered stolen cash, vehicles and illegal arms from them.

CIA police arrested six accused identified as Amir Ayub, Amir Ali, Shahzad Ali, Asif, Salman and Chand and recovered Rs 600,000, seven motorcycles, six cell phones and illegal weapons from them.

Khiali police arrested three accused identified as Usman, Bilal and Faisal and recovered Rs 125,000 and illegal arms from them.

The accused were involved in dacoity and theft incidents.

YOUTH COMMITS SUICIDE: A youth committed suicide by swallowing poisonous pills in Wahndo, Gujranwala on Thursday.

Reportedly, Imran, 25, wanted to marry a girl of his choice but her parents did not allow him to do so. In desperation he swallowed poisonous pills and died.
