The Donkey King, an animated Pakistani film written and directed by Aziz Jindani, has released in at least five countries post its local release in October 2018. After Turkey, Spain, South Korea, Ukraine and Russia, the film is all set to see the light of the day in Colombia later this month, that is, January 9.

The film released in Turkey during the recent festive season, where it has the honour of being the first Pakistani film to be dubbed in Turkish. According to reports, it is generating huge numbers at the Turkish box office.

“The film’s two-week gross now stands close to PKR 12 million,” reports Box Office Detail, adding, “The Donkey King’s global tally has now surpassed PKR 250 million. The film will be having next major release in Colombia but the film still has legs at Turkish box office and it might hit PKR 15 million before the end of its run.”

Though The Donkey King saw a fall of around 80 per cent in its second week with numbers falling from 8 to 2 million, it is said to be a good hold given that it lost over 55 cinemas in the second week.

Speaking of the film’s international presence, Aziz Jindani noted in an earlier interview with Instep, “It’s particularly heartening to see that the film has found resonance with international audiences worldwide, reaffirming the fact that ideas built around universal insights can transcend geographical boundaries.”
