A couple alleged to be extortionists were remanded in the custody of the court and police officials respectively for a week, on Thursday by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
An ATC (III), headed by Saleem Raza Baloch, was informed that Mehboob Ali and his wife Ameeran were activists of 'Sunni Group', allegedly associated with a group of Lyari gang-war criminals; they were said to have demanded Rs50,000 from a shopkeeper. They were arrested by officials of the Baghdadi police station on August 4 apparently when they were about to collect the extortion money. The wife was sent to the central prison while the husband was handed over to Baghdadi police officials.
