LAHORE: The LPG Association of Pakistan has welcomed the Lahore High Court’s verdict allowing the use of liquefied petroleum gas as fuel in vehicles, describing this overturning of the government’s petition against the use as of far-reaching importance for the country’s economic growth.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the chairman of the association, Farooq Iftikhar, said promotion of alternative fuels like LPG was one of Pakistan’s critical needs and continuing dependence on conventional fuels was the most important reason for its energy crisis.
Warning that countries like Pakistan would be adversely affected if OPEC countries reduced their oil production, Iftikhar said the government should encourage LPG as an alternative fuel for the automobile sector to reduce this dependence.
