British-Pakistani actor, activist, rapper (Riz MC) and a member of Swet Shop Boys, Riz Ahmed shot to fame with HBO’s outstanding mini-series The Night Of (2016) for which he also bagged an Emmy Award. With films like The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Venom among others to his credit, Riz Ahmed is all geared up for his upcoming film Mughal Mowgli in which he will essay the character of a British-Pakistani rapper.

Along with playing the lead in the music drama, Ahmed is also producing Mughal Mowgli through his Left Handed Films banner. The film marks the feature directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq, whose recent effort Ghosts of Sugar Land won the non-fiction short film award at Sundance and was acquired by Netflix.

Co-written by Bassam Tariq and Riz Ahmed, Mughal Mowgli is a spiritual drama about a British-Pakistani rapper who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an epigenetic illness that threatens to derail his big break.

Ahmed, who is currently prepping the TV drama Englistan for the BBC, has plenty of experience as a rapper, having emerged in the London music scene under the name Riz MC and performing both as a solo artist and with his band Swet Shop Boys. With production on Mughal Mowgli set to begin this month, we just can’t wait to see Ahmed’s talents as a producer, songwriter and performer take centerstage.
