HEC chairman appointment demanded

Islamabad: Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) has demanded immediate appointment of Higher Education Commission (HEC) new chairman.

Through a letter addressed to the prime minister, Dr Shehzad Ashraf Chaudhry, FAPUASA Islamabad Chapter president appreciated the efforts of search committee towards transparent and merit-based appointment of new chief of the HEC.

It is very pleasing that committee has finalised the panel to be presented to prime minister for the appointment of HEC chairman, he said. He claimed that a panel has been selected comprising three distinguished scholars Prof Dr Tariq Banuri, Prof Dr Iqbal Chaudhry and Prof Dr Anwarul Hassan Gilani on merit.

"All the stakeholders including FAPUASA is eyeing closely to the process and we appreciate that the committee has chosen the three names on merit," he said. Whole nation in general and entire teaching fraternity in particular is indebted to the tireless efforts made for the merit based and transparent formation of panel."

The apex education body is working without its’ leader for more than 3 weeks and the committee finalised the 3-member panel during last week, unnecessary delay in sending the summary to the prime minister and news about another meeting of Search Committee, has created serious doubts about the process, he lamented. Dr Shehzad requested the prime minister for immediate appointment of HEC chairman.
