By banning basant, the government has killed off one of our most vibrant cultural festival and deprived people of a chance to enjoy their lives. This does not absolve the government of its responsibilities of addressing issues that lead to the ban.
The festival is still romanticised by people in Lahore but unfortunately the government, through its inefficiency and rigid way of addressing fallouts of any problem, has been relentlessly testing the resilience of people. The government needs to mend its ways and revive festivals like basant.
