It’s always a good time to talk about Heath Ledger, the star who left us too early. Whether it was his charming portrayal of the bad boy in 10 Things I Hate About You, or his sinister characterization in Christophar Nolan’s The Dark Knight, a performance so iconic that it has been labeled as one of the most powerful cinematic performances of all time, Ledger has always been our favourite.
However, there are two more reasons for Ledger to still be in the news almost a decade after his untimely death in 2008. Firstly, we are waiting with bated breath to watch I Am Heath Ledger, a tell-all documentary about the life of the young star that promises to reveal the inner workings of his mind.
According to Eonline, fans will be able to gain access into his personal life thanks to their access to a wealth of home video footage filmed by Ledger himself. Those who knew him claim that the actor would be seen carrying a camera and constantly documenting the world around him. According to Vanity Fair, Ledger loved taking photographs of the London Underground, the contemplative faces of former girlfriends, and deserted Australian landscapes.
The 90-minute documentary also features his friends and loved ones, including Naomi Watts, Ben Mendelsohn, Ben Harper and director Ang Lee, as well as Ledger’s parents and sisters.
While the documentary will be released on May 17, there’s something else available online that also offers a chance to understand Ledger’s mind. Vanity Fair has released exclusive images of Ledger’s photography and artwork. The photography contains many self portraits by the star, who, turns out, wasn’t just an actor and performer but an artist as well. One can see in his paintings the sense to bring life to the mundane. He adds bright colours to dull landscapes, brings abstract ideas to the real world.
