Dylan Hoemsen, a senior official from the Simon Fraser University (SFU) visited RIS and met Walid Mushtaq, CEO of the Roots International Schools (RIS) along with his team members in order to discuss the opportunities for students to enjoy the international exposure at SFU. He discussed the plan to optimise students exchange opportunities, exploring the prospects of collaboration to promote education as a denominator. The discussion focused on empowering the students to undertake challenging programmes and Dylan expressed his sorrow on the Peshawar massacre and said that he wanted to show his solidarity with the victims and their families.
Walid Mushtaq said that the security situation and current prevalent extremism shouldn't hold them back from success. "It should motivate us to move forward and prove ourselves as a progressive nation and to break the Global perception regarding Muslims. Roots International Schools is not just a school, it's a passion driven organization that aims to bring forward the best in students by shaping their personalities and I believe that every institute has the responsibility to mold the youth into the responsible citizens of tomorrow. And we as educationist, mentors and leaders should play our role in shaping the community by educating the students and empowering them to differentiate between the good and the bad. Education is our weapon," he said.
The teams of both organisations discussed the role they can play to achieve the goals laid out by them. Last year, Dylan had a session with the students of RIS along with other schools in the city and he was impressed by the knowledge base of Rootsians. Dylan guided the students regarding the environment of campus, the international exposure, the on campus activities, various scholarship opportunities and the admission criterion. Several Rootsians made their way into the SFU by notching thousands of dollars scholarships in 2014. Considering the acceptances of
Rootsians, this year Dylan paid an exclusive visit to the CEO to propose a partnership plan in order to strengthen the relationship between two institutions.
