With the monsoon season under way, the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Monday forecast a fresh rainy spell at a number of places in the country, including Islamabad, for the next three days.
“Good monsoon currents are likely to penetrate into upper and central parts of the country in the next 48 hours. Due to the good monsoon incursions, rain and thunderstorm with isolated heavy rainfall are expected at a number of places in Islamabad, Punjab, Fata, KP and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday (today) to Thursday,” an official at the PMD told 'The News'.
The official said rains and thunderstorm were also expected at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan, Sindh and eastern parts of Balochistan including Zhob, Sibbi, Naseerabad and Kalat divisions in the next three days.
He warned heavy downpour could cause flash flooding and landslides in the vulnerable areas of Punjab, KP, GB and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The weatherman said rains coupled with glacier melt water could result in the glacial lake outburst flood in the vulnerable areas of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. He urged the communities to remain alert to the possible calamity all through the period, especially on Wednesday and Thursday, and asked the relevant authorities take precautionary measures against it.
