ALPURI: As police on Sunday enhanced the security measures across the Shangla district a day after the convoy led by the district police officer (DPO) was targeted by a remote-controlled bomb.
Officials said the police have tightened security across the district, especially along major highways, including the Karakoram Highway, which is frequently used by tourists. Enhanced protective measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors.
Law enforcement agencies, including the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, Elite Force, and local police, have launched intensified joint operations in sensitive areas.
Search and strike operations have been ramped up across multiple locations as part of the crackdown on potential threats.The police also thwarted an attack on the Shakolai Police Post. Officials reiterated that the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the force’s top priority.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shah Hassan Khan narrowly escaped a roadside blast targeting his convoy in Doa Khwaru area near Shekolai Mor in the jurisdiction of Choga Police Station on Saturday.
Police officials said that the DPO and the cops accompanying him remained unharmed in the remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) blast.Meanwhile, the attack drew widespread condemnation from local political leaders, community organisations, and civil society members.
Expressing solidarity with the police, community leaders commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers who repelled the attack. They emphasized that Shangla’s residents stand united with their police force and will not allow extremist elements to destabilize their peaceful district.
