KARACHI/LAHORE: Pakistan’s Noor Zaman reached the final of the inaugural under-23 World Squash Championship at Creek Club here on Wednesday.
Second seed Zaman easily defeated Malaysia’s Ameeshenraj Chandaran 11-6, 11-2, 11-4 (retired) in the semifinal. In the second semifinal, top seed Ibrahim Elkabbani from Egypt was stunned by his country fellow 3/4 seed Kareem El Torkey 11-7, 2-11, 8-11, 5-11.
Now, Noor is to face Kareem in the final on Friday (today). Meanwhile, M Ammad from Pakistan reached the final of consolation event as he got walkover against Ernesto Revert Escutia in the semifinal.
Now, he will face Karim Michael in the final. Organised by the Pakistan Squash Federation under the patronage of Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, the tournament ends on Thursday (today).
This premier competition features 34 male and 22 female players from 23 countries, including notable participants from Pakistan, Canada, Egypt, England, and the USA. The Pakistan Air Force has been instrumental in promoting sports at both national and international levels.
