SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) central leader and MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said on Sunday that the Sindh government’s position on the canals issue is clear and that there will be no compromise on the province’s water share.
Criticising Punjab government spokesperson Azma Bokhari’s statement, terming it “totally immature”, he said the PPP is a democratic party which has always saved the federation, adding that Azma Bokhari should read the 1991 water sharing agreement before making a statement.
Talking to the media, Khursheed Shah further said the canals issue is not only related to Sindh but the whole country, as voices are also being raised in Punjab against the project.
He said people are worried if they do not receive their share of water, their land would become barren. He said, “We want every Pakistani to get water.”
He said when the 1991 accord was signed, “we had 114 million acre feet of water, and at present we have only 94 million acre feet of water”. There has been a natural decrease of 20 million acre feet of water in thirty-five years, he said.
To a question regarding the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, he said this is a court matter. About Balochistan, he said there is a need to improve law and order situation in the province.
