PESHAWAR: The retired employees of the University of Peshawar have expressed concern over the non-payment of pensions to them ahead of Eidul Fitr despite assurances from both provincial and federal governments that March salaries and pensions would be paid before Eid.
This delay has not only disregarded government directives but has also dampened the Eid celebrations for the children of thousands of retired employees of the university, the University of Peshawar Retired Employees Council said in a statement.
The members of the council urged the
Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take immediate action to ensure the timely payment of
pensions to the retired employees.
The council also called for the implementation of a mechanism that will prevent any future disruptions in pension payment.
Furthermore, the council members accused the vice chancellor of the university and other administrative officials of discriminating against retired employees.
