Overcharging on perishable items persists

LAHORE : The Punjab government has failed to enforce the official rates and stop the overcharging while the issue of issuance of fake chicken meat rate list persisted even on the last day of Ramazan.

However, the authorities established the rhetoric of controlled inflation and declining prices on all media platforms. But they are also kept mum on the issuance of fake chicken rate list as the chicken meat was not sold at the issued rates anywhere. The officials availed Eid holidays giving a free hand to the sellers to make their ‘eidi’ through overcharging. The sellers further increased the overcharging as they charged more than 100 to 200 percent the official rates. This week again, the official rate of the chicken fixed at Rs397-411 per kg, sold at Rs600-650 per kg, and chicken meat fixed at Rs595 per kg, and sold at Rs700-795 and chicken boneless at Rs1,150-1,200 per kg.

The price of potato soft skin A-grade was fixed at Rs45-50 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg, B-grade at Rs35-40 per kg and C-grade at Rs32-35 per kg, mixed sold at Rs50-70 per kg. The price of onion A-grade reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs40-45 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg, B-grade at Rs30-35 per kg, and C-grade at Rs27-30 per kg, mixed sold at Rs50-60 per kg.

The price of tomato A-grade unchanged at Rs55-60 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs45-50 per kg, and C-grade at Rs35-40 per kg, mixed sold at Rs100-120 per kg. The price of garlic local new was further reduced by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs225-235 per kg, sold at Rs350 per kg, Garlic GI variety Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs355-370 per kg, sold at Rs450-500 per kg and Garlic China by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs570-590 per kg, sold at Rs800-1,000 per kg.

The price of both Ginger Thai and Chinese further increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs410-425 per kg, both sold at Rs600-800 per kg. Cucumber Farm further reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. Brinjal price was reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs47-50 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg. Bitter gourd reduced by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs142-150 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg. Zucchini farm reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at 28-30 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg, and Zucchini long by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. The lemon Chinese unchanged at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs250-300 per kg. Green chili reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs95-100 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg. Capsicum price was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs120-150 per kg.

Price of cauliflower was unchanged at 28-30 per kg, sold at Rs50-80 per kg, and cabbage was unchanged at Rs38-40 per kg, sold at Rs80-120 per kg. Carrot Chinese reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs47-50 per kg, sold at Rs200-240 per kg, carrot local at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. Turnip was unchanged at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs60-80 per kg.

Fenugreek (Methi) gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs52-55 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. Pea price further gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs110-115 per kg, sold at Rs160-200 per kg. Beetroot was sold at Rs200-250 per kg. Coriander was sold at Rs80 per bundle.

Radish was fixed at Rs23-25 per kg, sold at Rs40-60 per kg.

Lady finger was reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs210-220 per kg, sold at Rs300-350 per kg.

The price of different variety of apples fixed at Rs170-325 per kg, sold at Rs250-600 per kg. The price of Banana A-category unchanged at Rs250-260 per dozen, sold at Rs350-400 per dozen, and B-category at Rs180-190 dozen, sold at Rs250-280 per dozen. C-grade was fixed at Rs115-120 per dozen, sold at Rs150-200 per dozen.

Guava was reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs160-210 per kg, sold at Rs200-300 per kg. Citrus fruit was further gained by Rs35 per dozen, fixed at Rs350-505 per dozen, sold at Rs600-800 per dozen.

Pomegranate danaydar further gained by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs470-490 per kg, sold at 800 per kg, pomegranate kandahari by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs380-520 per kg, sold at Rs800-1,000 per kg, pomegranate Bedana was sold at Rs1,400-1,500 per kg.

Dates were fixed at Rs415-460 per kg, sold at Rs750 to 2,000 per kg. Orange was fixed at Rs210-220 per dozen, sold at Rs500 per dozen.

Strawberry price reduced by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs70-110 per kg, sold at Rs150-200 per kg. Melon was reduced by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs80-125 per kg, sold at Rs120-150 per kg. Watermelon was fixed at Rs47-50 per kg, sold at Rs100 per kg.
